So you have a special evening function to attend. You've decided on your dress, always stressful, although the more often you do it, the easier it becomes. Now comes the fun part, choosing the jewelry to wear with it, so that you look that extra bit special in it.
You need to make some basic decisions on what, and how much jewelry to wear. You want to shine but not look as if you have gone over the top. It may well look over the top if and take the focus away from the dress if too cluttered.
You won't want a bracelet if your dress has long sleeves.Short sleeves and a bangle or bracelet will show off graceful arms. Necklaces can look cluttered if you have a strongly patterned dress. The color of the dress may quickly decide what earings to wear
When you start to look at buying earrings you should look at the shape of your face as well as your dress. Dangly earrings will make a round face look thinner whilst the roundness of your face will be highlighted by round earrings. The opposite of course is true if you have a thin or longer face. The wow factor can be achieved by using matching earrings and necklace to give that together look, especially if they are sparkly.
An ankle bracelet will show off your long legs, especially with a short skirt. You should very carefully consider this. Understated high heels together with a small gold chain anklet can look really glamorous, however it can easily turn into looking tarty if teamed with the wrong clothes. Never, ever wear an ankle chain with fishnet stockings.
You need to decide if you want to create an elegant, fun, or glamorous look. Then choose your jewelry to suit that look. Glamorous and elegant, but rarely the fun look, can be achieved with Diamond jewelry and similar gems. For that look you need select beads of various types. Enjoy shopping for your jewelry. Try on as many items as you can, and give yourself plenty of time. There are plenty of choices out there from Trendy Fashion Jewelry and retro pieces in antique shops to the more expensive real gems.
You could of course turn this whole process on its head if you have a special item of jewelry that you really want to wear. Choose other items to compliment the special piece and then select the dress that really highlights it. Always try to keep the whole look co-ordinated - don't wear gold earings and silver rings and a differant coloured beaded necklace. Decide if you like gold - or silver- or beads- or a particular coloured gem and build around it. Whatever look you're after, it will still look better if you build it around a particular theme.
Last but not least, don't stress about this. Have fun choosing your jewelry and enjoy your special evening in the sure thought that you look your best.
