Gemstones and precious metals have been a favorite among human beings since time immemorial.Whether it is the small diamonds that adorn their places on a simple ring or huge necklaces with thousands of small and big pearls all laced together, each piece of jewelry has a following. It has been stated as an asset of sorts since thousands of years.Kings and Queens used to adorn their own jewels upon their bodies with pride just like we all do even today.Since then looking at the gold prices recently, the value has just increased in the frequent years.
The crust of this earth provides a number of different jewels and gems of many different shades and sizes. The Jade is one of the most precious and important gemstones of all times. It has held a very special regard for itself over the years due to its beauty. The word Jade comes from a Spanish word ‘piedra de ijada’ which means to be ‘loin stone’.This is because this stone was majorly used to cure the ailments of loins and kidneys in the previous times and thus was regarded a precious piece of stone. This kind of stone is usually used for ornaments.
The name Jade has been given to two different metamorphic rocks known as the Nephrite and Jadeite. These two types of rocks are the premature forms of the Jadestone and are found mostly in the green colour.Due to this reason, the Jade is also known as the ‘greenstone’ in many countries. The other colors that the greenstone is found in include light blue, pink, white, creamy and sometimes even yellow. It being available in so many vibrant colors is thus one of the primary choices for being used in the making of expensive jewelry or sculptures of Gods and Goddesses.
The Jade is held in very high esteem in the Chinese culture and a number of dragon sculptures and art are carved out of the Jade stone. The Chinese have played a major role in cultivating and using the stone to its fullest and re-discovering more and more uses of it.The Jade is treated in many different ways before being used for sculpting, carving or in any other rock art like in jewelry.Burma, Guatemala and Canada are the primary and main sources of the Nephrite and Jadeite in the world.
Jade has been considered to be one of the prized and special gemstones in the history of precious gems and continues to be so.May the greenstone never cease to be!
